We live amongst the protected bays and inlets of the Gulf Islands in British Columbia, Canada. The natural beauty and pristine waters surrounding Salt Spring Island inspired us to create Salt Spring Sea Salt Ltd. We harvest and evaporate the sea water, prepare, sift, pack and label our fleur de sel sea personally by hand. The sea water is carefully filtered of impurities to offer the best fleur de sel product possible. What is fleur de sel? Pronounced “flure-de-SELL”, fleur de sel is special form of sea salt notably from France. Fleur de sel is produced by collecting the thin layer of sea salt flakes that form on the surface of the water during the evaporation process and must be skimmed off by hand. Considered a fine finishing sea salt, fleur de sel is much more than ordinary seasoning. It is a gourmet garnish or condiment. We suggest sprinkling the snow-like crystals on your dish (versus during cooking) for the final culinary touch. The fleur de sel will enhance the gorgeous flavours in your meal, add colour (with many of our infused fleur de sel blends) and texture!
